Team DB and The Plymouth-Dakar Challenge
2 guys, 8 countries and 4000 miles
The goal is to drive 4000 miles from Plymouth, UK to Banjul, Gambia in West Africa with the aim of helping some charitable causes in Senegal and Gambia. Additionally, many teams are raising money for a charity of their choice. Team DB, Jon Hope and John Alflatt, will be raising money for MAG.
This winter is The Plymouth-Dakar Rally's second year and more than 110 teams are taking part. The route bypasses Dakar because Senegal now prohibits the selling of cars not already in the country. Team DB will be leaving from London on December 19th. After having a large fry-up, of course.
The rally name refers to the famous Paris-Dakar Rally which has been running since 1978. That race costs competitors €22,000 to enter a car. This one (ahem) doesn't.
The Rules
Competing cars should cost less than £100 ($160).
Maximum budget for the vehicle rally preparation £15 ($24).
Once the rally is underway, there will be no formal assistance from the organisers.
All of vehicles that reach Banjul will be auctioned off.
The proceeds will be donated to local charities.
